5 Spring Activities For You and Your Dog

Updated: Apr 7

Spring is finally here, after what felt like the longest winter ever, it’s time to enjoy some nicer weather! And what other way to enjoy it more than with your pup! So to celebrate this time of the year, we decided to share our favourite spring activities for you and your dog to make the most of this wonderful weather.

  1. Take Your Dog For A Hike

Look for some hiking trails in your area and go exploring! It’s one of the most dog friendly activities and a chance for your dog to smell lots of new things, not to mention a great way of working out and usually offers some Instagram worthy views! Keep in mind that trails do vary in difficulty and not all of them will be suitable for going off the lead, so you'll want to research your route in advance to find one that you know you can both enjoy comfortably.

Our top tips for a happy hike

  • Bring water and treats (for both of you!)

  • Take breaks regularly

  • Wear appropriate clothing/footwear

  • Check the weather forecast

  • Take a hands free poo bag holder

  1. Go To The Beach

If you live close to a beach, count yourself lucky, but if not, you might want to consider making a one off trip! Seriously, when you think about it, it’s one of the best places to take your pup to. Whether your dog is an avid swimmer or just prefers to dig in the sand like there's no tomorrow, the beach is a great place to make memories.

Our favourite spots in the South East

  • Bunmahon Beach - for fantastic views

  • Annestown - a quaint little beach with ample parking

  • Woodstown Beach - perfect for a nice for long walk

  • Tramore - if you want a bite to eat or coffee afterwards, this one's for you!

  • Saleens - a slightly quieter coastal spot

  • Dunmore East - a great place for a swim and sauna

Remember that not all beaches are dog-friendly and some may have restrictions which may require you to keep your dog on a leash. Be sure to check the beach’s local authority website in advance of your journey.

  1. Plan A Playdate

Is your dog a social butterfly? If the answer is yes, this one's for you! From breed meet ups to pet friendly events, or a simple trip to a dog park, there are plenty of ways you can fill the diary.

We recommend...

  • Tail Blazers (Co. Waterford) - from €10

The South East’s only Off Leash Dog Park! This spot has a number of fields you can choose to pre-book and offers a completely secure space for all sorts of fun and games. The fields are massive and even have fresh water taps to help keep your pup hydrated. So if (like us) you have not quite mastered the art of re-call training or simply want a cute spot to arrange a playdate, we suggest you take a look!

  1. Picnic With Your Pup

Romance might be a dead but we're not here to kill the vibes. If a picnic sounds like the perfect date, why not take your bestie instead? Simply find a remote spot, grab a blanket and some treats, and you're good to go! We won't judge if you decide to slip in a cheeky bottle of fizz, but your dog might. * bombastic side-eye *

Repeat after me "We listen and we don't judge".
  1. Go Camping

Feeling more adventurous? Why not give camping a go! It’s a fantastic way of bonding with your dog. As even if you are spending the night outside, they will appreciate your company and know they are safe. We won't talk about the scenic poos...💩
